Bolt Block Users Involved In Fake Orders As It Restricts Inter-Country Ride Requests

Mobility super-app, Bolt, has blocked accounts involved in requesting fake rides and cancelling them.

The ride-hailing app also disclosed that it has restricted inter-country ride requests following the escalation of such requests in Nigeria and South Africa.

News About Nigeria earlier reported that the online battle between Nigerians and South Africans took on a new dimension as citizens from the two countries started ordering e-hailing drivers from opposing countries from the comfort of their homes.

It was gathered that South Africans started the show by ordering Bolt rides in Nigeria and cancelling the ride when the drivers got to the pick-up locations.

On their part, Nigerians also returned the favour by booking rides in South Africa to show the power of numbers.

Following the escalation, Bolt, in its move to salvage the situation, restricted inter-country ride requests and also blocked the accounts involved.

This was revealed by the Country Manager of Nigeria at Bolt, Yahaya Mohammed, in a statement released on Thursday evening.

The statement partly reads, “Bolt is aware of the fake ride request incident between some individuals in Nigeria and South Africa. We have successfully taken measures to resolve the issue of fake ride requests affecting our driver-partners, particularly those operating in Nigeria and South Africa. The integrity and safety of our platform, both for driver-partners and riders, is our utmost priority.

“Following a thorough investigation and the implementation of enhanced security measures, we have addressed this issue swiftly by restricting inter-country ride requests. Additionally, those responsible for this malicious activity have been identified and held accountable by blocking them from the Bolt app.”

Mohammed also appreciated their driver-partners for their patience and professionalism, promising to foster a safe, reliable, and secure experience for all it’s members.
