The Kano State Hisbah Board has intercepted a vehicle transporting over 24,000 bottles of alcohol within the state, News About Nigeria reports.
The operation was conducted on Monday afternoon along BUK Road, near the Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies.
Dr. Mujaheed Aminudden, the Deputy Commander General of the Hisbah Board, confirmed the seizure while addressing journalists.
He stated that the interception aligns with the enforcement of laws prohibiting the sale and consumption of alcohol in Kano State.
“We have successfully confiscated a large consignment of alcohol intended for distribution within the state. This action is in accordance with the statutes governing the Kano State Hisbah Board, which restrict the sale and use of intoxicants,” Dr. Aminudden said.
He expressed appreciation to the Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) for their assistance in halting the vehicle before it entered the city centre.
According to Dr. Aminudden, the driver of the vehicle abandoned it upon interception, necessitating the use of a tow truck to transport it to the Hisbah headquarters for further investigation.
Dr. Aminudden also called on the public to support the board’s efforts by reporting any suspicious activities related to the transportation or distribution of prohibited items.
“We urge residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any vehicles suspected of carrying illicit goods to the appropriate authorities,” he added.
In addition to the alcohol seizure, the Hisbah Board reported the arrest of six individuals in the Gaida area of Kumbotso Local Government Area on suspicion of engaging in acts contrary to the state’s moral codes.
The arrests were made following complaints from local residents.
“All suspects have been apprehended and are currently undergoing investigation. They have expressed remorse and pledged not to engage in such activities again. Appropriate legal actions will be taken upon the conclusion of our inquiries,” Dr. Aminudden stated.
