Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has penned an emotional tribute to the late MD and CEO of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe, on his first posthumous birthday, News About Nigeria reports.
The governor expressed his sadness in a statement via his verified handle on X on Thursday.
Today, the late Wigwe would have turned 58, and tributes have continued to pour in.
Sanwo-Olu maintained that the wisdom, vision, and unwavering belief of Wigwe in Nigeria will continue to remain etched in the hearts of the people.
“Today would have been Herbert’s 58th birthday, and we would have shared a laugh together. The pain of his loss is still so raw, but today, I choose to remember the man who was more than a brother and friend to me.
“Herbert’s wisdom, vision, and unwavering belief in Nigeria remain etched in our hearts. We miss you deeply, my brother.
“He was not just a leader; he was a beacon of hope and a visionary inspiring many. We honour his legacy of progress, integrity, and love for our country.
“As we remember Herbert today, let us celebrate the incredible life he lived.
“Rest in peace, my dear brother. Your spirit lives on in every heart you touched,” he stated.
Recall that the businessman lost his life in a plane crash in Nipton, California, USA, alongside his wife and son on February 9, 2024.
Before his death, Wigwe was also the founder of The HOW Foundation, a non-profit organisation, and was named co-chair of the Nigerian Business Coalition against AIDS, a private sector initiative to help eradicate HIV/AIDS in Nigeria and support people living with the condition.
He also founded the Wigwe University, a private university in his hometown, Isiokpo, in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, which is set to open in September 2024.
