Two Men Drown In Jigawa Pond, NSCDC Recovers Bodies

Vendor Arrested For Murder In Jigawa 

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa State has reported the recovery of the bodies of two men who drowned in a pond in Birninkudu Local Government Area.

The incident occurred as the men, identified as 20-year-old Abubakar Alhaji and 25-year-old Abubakar Abdullahi, attempted to cross the pond on their way to a market in Waza village.

The NSCDC’s Public Relations Officer, ASC Badaruddeen Tijjani, shared the details in a statement issued on Wednesday in Dutse.

According to Tijjani, the tragic event took place on Monday around 11:00 AM.

The NSCDC Divisional Officer in Birninkudu, CSC Muhammad Garba, received a distress call from community members at approximately 11:30 AM, prompting an immediate response from the NSCDC team and divisional disaster management officers.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Monday, at about 1100 hrs.

“The NSCDC Divisional Officer, Birninkudu, CSC Muhammad Garba, confirmed that the unit received a distress call from some members of the community at around 1130 hrs.

”Our men were deployed to the area alongside us and rushed the divisional disaster management officers for a rescue mission.

“With the help of the local community, our team was able to recover the bodies of the two victims after about 48 minutes of search and rescue efforts,” Tijjani said.

The recovered remains were then taken to the Waza health facility and subsequently handed over to the victims’ families for burial according to Islamic rites.

The NSCDC Commandant in Jigawa State, Muhammad Danjuma, extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and urged parents to be particularly vigilant during the rainy season, as ponds and rivers may overflow, posing increased risks.
