The Kaduna State Security Council has lifted the curfew that was enforced in the metropolitan areas of Kaduna and Zaria as a result of the #EndBadGovernance protest, News About Nigeria reports.
The Overseeing Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
He noted that the lifting of the curfew will take effect on Tuesday, adding that people are free to move anytime.
He stated that the lifting of the curfew followed a comprehensive evaluation of the security landscape in these regions.
“After an extensive review of the security situation in Kaduna and Zaria towns and their environs, the Kaduna State Security Council, under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani, has removed the current 6 pm to 8 am curfew completely.
“The removal of the curfew is effective immediately, from today Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
“The Kaduna State Security Council, after an extensive review last night, unanimously agreed to lift the curfew and reaffirmed its dedication to the safety and security of all residents,” the statement reads.
Recall that the state security council had earlier relaxed the 24-hour curfew imposed after the violence that followed the nationwide protest in the state.
The state government, however, warned against holding public gatherings and processions, urging residents to seek approval from the relevant authorities to prevent any disruption of public order.
He maintained that security forces will remain vigilant and will not hesitate to act against any individuals or groups threatening peace.
He also urged law-abiding citizens to now resume their daily activities without any time restrictions in both cities.
