The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) has announced that it confiscated a large amount of styrofoam from a warehouse in Idumota.
News About Nigeria reports that this action aligns with LAGESC’s mission to enforce environmental sanitation practices and promote a cleaner environment.
Recall that the Lagos government prohibited the use and distribution of styrofoam and single-use plastics on January 21.
Similarly, the federal government banned single-use plastics in all government agencies on June 25 to combat plastic pollution.
The Lagos Environment Commissioner, Tokunbo Wahab, announced on X on Tuesday that ministry operatives seized styrofoam packs for destruction.
Wahab said that the packs were taken to the Taskforce Office for proper disposal.
“Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) discovered a styrofoam packs warehouse in Idumota,” the post reads.
“The product has been confiscated and taken to the Taskforce Office for incineration.”
Recall that the LAGESC said it discovered styrofoam at Ojuwoye Market in Mushin on July 2, following an intelligence tip.
The Lagos Environment Commissioner also announced the arrest of 16 troublemakers at Oshodi’s Terminal 3 in a related incident.
He added that operatives of the Drainage Maintenance Department on Monday also continued with the cleaning/de-flooding, maintenance dredging, and evacuation of silt from Coker Bridge to Alafia Bridge Primary Channel and Surulere Local Government Area to prevent flooding in the axis.
