The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the February 2023 election has said that the future youths must be prioritised in Nigeria because they remain the bedrock of the nation, News About Nigeria reports.
Obi also noted that investing in the youth in the country is one of the ways Nigeria can overcome the many challenges bedevilling her as a nation.
He noted that most of the challenges Nigeria is suffering from, including insecurity and banditry, are a result of the neglect of the youth by the government of the day.
The former Anambra State Governor, who said this in a statement shared on his official X account to commemorate this year’s International Youth Day (IYD) on Monday, also lauded the Nigerian youths for their hard work, creativity, and resolve for greatness both in the country and on the global stage.
The LP Chieftain’s statement partly reads, “As the global community commemorates International Youth Day today, I add my voice in reminding us, the leaders, that youths remain the bedrock of the development of any country. Therefore, their future must be prioritised and placed at the forefront of our development agenda. For a predominantly youthful nation, investing in our youths remains critical to overcoming many of the societal challenges we face today in trying to position the nation on the path of true development.
“Most of the raging issues like insecurity, banditry, violent agitations, and uprisings in many parts of the country are obvious results of youth neglect over the years. Thankfully, Nigeria is gifted with highly talented and very creative youths who are naturally hard-working and ready to make positive impacts in the nation and on the global stage. I have consistently maintained that we must empower the youth through investment in the critical areas of development: education, healthcare, and pulling them out of poverty.”
Obi, therefore, urged leaders in the country to “stop feasting while our hard-working youths are fasting,” adding that they must rethink their actions and prioritise the future of the youths for the sake of our nation.
He also encouraged the youths to sustain their hope in Nigeria and to remain committed to national development even in these challenging times.
