Comrade Usman Okai Austin, a former PDP candidate for the Dekina/Bassa federal constituency elections in 2023, has asked the Kogi State government to disclose the location of 20 trucks of rice sent by the federal government to combat hunger and food scarcity.
News About Nigeria recalls that the federal government had pledged to address food insecurity nationwide, especially in states like Kogi, severely impacted by economic challenges and the COVID-19 pandemic.
The rice distribution initiative aimed to provide immediate relief to vulnerable populations and ensure no citizen goes hungry.
Okai expressed concern over the state government’s silence on the matter, stating that withholding information sends a troubling message to the people of Kogi State.
He said citizens deserve to know the status of the rice and its distribution plan, emphasizing transparency and accountability in governance.
Okai said that the rice distribution is a critical lifeline for many families struggling to make ends meet.
He stated that the people of Kogi State await their rightful share of this aid, and it’s the government’s responsibility to ensure resources reach those who need them most.
Okai urged Governor Ododo to provide clarity on the situation, emphasizing that silence is unacceptable.
He also stressed the need for credible individuals to oversee the distribution process to prevent the diversion or sale of aid.
Okai emphasized that the rice is meant for all citizens, regardless of political affiliations, and should not be used as a political tool.
“The call for action resonates with Kogi State residents’ concerns about the alleged lack of transparency and accountability in government operations. Effective governance and equitable distribution of resources are crucial as the state faces economic challenges, ” he said.
