Special Assistant to former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has blasted Nigerians for criticising President Bola Tinubu’s address to Nigerians amid the nationwide protest to end bad governance in Nigeria, News About Nigeria reports.

He disclosed this in a statement via his verified handle on X on Monday.

Recall that the President addressed the country on Sunday with the intent of bringing an end to the planned protest, which began on August 1, 2024.

Nigerians however, criticised the address, describing it as lacking of empathy, and not addressing the issues plaguing the country.

Reacting to this, Omokri noted that President Bola Tinubu’s speech is filled with empathy as opposed to the speech delivered by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom who gave an address on Sunday in the face of the riot ongoing in the State.

“For those criticising President Tinubu’s speech for lacking empathy, perhaps you should compare his words to the speech the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, gave on the same day. They were both responding to the same issue: street protests, looting, and the destruction of public property.

“Whereas Tinubu said: My dear Nigerians, especially our youth, I have heard you loud and clear. I understand the pain and frustration that drive these protests, and I want to assure you that our government is committed to listening and addressing the concerns of our citizens.”
“Mr. Starmer said: I guarantee you will regret taking part in this disorder, whether directly or by those whipping up this action online and the. Running away themselves, this is not a protest. This is an organised violent thuggery.”
“After comparing the two, are you still sure that President Tinubu’s speech lacked empathy? Which approach would you rather have, Starmer’s or Tinubu?” he stated.
