The Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has eased the curfew restrictions in Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru, following increased security improvements in the areas.
News About Nigeria understands that the curfew, previously in place, has been relaxed by five hours, now allowing residents to engage in lawful activities between noon and 5 pm, starting Sunday.
This decision was announced by Retired Brig.-Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam, the governor’s Special Adviser on Security Matters.
The governor praised security agencies for their efforts in restoring peace and urged them to remain alert during the relaxed curfew hours to prevent any potential disturbances.
He also encouraged residents to collaborate with security personnel and report any suspicious activities, assuring the public of the government’s ongoing commitment to ensuring their safety and well-being.
Recall that on Thursday, the Yobe government imposed a curfew in Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru towns after some hoodlums took advantage to vandalise and loot government and private property.
The Special Adviser to Governor Mai Buni, on security matters, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdussallam, had announced the restriction of a 24-hour curfew in Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru.
He said, “The public is hereby advised to abide by the curfew order and stay at home for peace to reign in these areas and the state at large.”
Abdulsallam added, “Security agencies have been directed to ensure enforcement and full compliance of the curfew order.
The move came amid growing tensions in the state, with reports of violence and destruction of property in the three affected towns.
The state government had appealed for calm, saying the curfew would remain in place until further notice.
