The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned President Bola Tinubu’s inaction in the face of the ongoing nationwide protests against bad governance.
News About Nigeria reports that this is contained in a statement issued by the party’s national publicity secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, on Saturday.
The party demanded that the president takes immediate action to address the pressing issues affecting Nigerians, including the high cost of petroleum products, the devaluation of the Naira, and food scarcity.
The PDP believes that the president’s silence is exacerbating the situation, creating anxiety among citizens and perpetuating the notion that the All Progressives Congress (APC) government is indifferent to their plight.
The party stressed that the primary responsibility of any government is to provide good governance, protection, security, and welfare to its citizens.
However, the APC government has failed to deliver on these promises, leading to widespread discontent and protests.
The PDP expresses concern over the brutal suppression of peaceful protesters by APC-controlled security agencies, resulting in the loss of innocent lives and injuries.
The PDP urged President Tinubu to break his silence and address the nation, providing concrete solutions to the pressing issues.
The party advocated for a transparent and innovative management of resources, economic potentials, and refining capacity to reduce the price of petroleum products.
Specifically, they argue that petrol should not sell for more than N200 per liter, given the country’s strategic investment in gas production.
Furthermore, the PDP demands that President Tinubu takes immediate action to recover the over N50 trillion allegedly stolen by APC leaders, reduce tariffs on essential goods, cut the cost of governance, and review luxury items in his government.
They also called for a thorough investigation into the reported killing of unarmed protesters by security operatives and urged the security agencies to maintain a high level of professionalism in their duties.
The PDP reiterated its call for Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding in their pursuit of a responsive and people-oriented government, which has been absent since the APC took power in 2015.
