Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Uche Secondus, has thrown his weight behind the forthcoming #EndBadGovernance protest in Nigeria.
News About Nigeria reports that he also criticising President Bola Tinubu’s stance on the issue.
Secondus, through his media aide, Ike Abonyi, drew attention to the President’s past as a protest leader, highlighting the hypocrisy in his current position.
He emphasised the significance of peaceful protests in holding those in power accountable and addressing the country’s pressing challenges.
Secondus described the planned protest as a non-partisan, citizen-led initiative aimed at tackling Nigeria’s problems.
He stressed that protests are a vital democratic tool for raising national awareness and prompting leaders to act in the best interests of citizens.
He urged protesters to remain peaceful and organised, while calling on the government and security agencies to provide a secure environment for the protest, as guaranteed by international law and the Nigerian Constitution.
Secondus’ statement concluded by emphasising the need for transparency and collective action to build a better society.
He encouraged citizens to speak truth to power and work together to address the country’s issues, rather than sweeping them under the carpet.
The nationwide protests over the economic hardship in the country have been slated for the first week of August.
Recall that the federal government and President Bola Tinubu have appealed to the youth to shelve the planned protest.
Recently, the Take-It-Back Movement, a pro-democracy group, notified the IGP of its plan to hold public meetings, rallies, and processions with other Nigerians.
