Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has established the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, appointing Siraja Musa as its inaugural commissioner.

News About Nigeria understands that this development marks a major milestone in the state’s pursuit of sustainable energy and infrastructure growth.

During the swearing-in ceremony at the Government House, Governor Namadi highlighted the importance of this new ministry, stating that it represents a historic first for Jigawa State.

He acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead, emphasising the complexity of establishing a new ministry and encouraging Dr. Musa to collaborate closely with his fellow commissioners.

In addition to the new ministry, Governor Namadi announced the creation of a regulatory body to oversee the distribution and transmission of electricity within the state.

He said this agency will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful takeoff and operation of the ministry.

The governor said as commissioner, Dr. Musa will be responsible for integrating various departments previously under other ministries, including the electrical departments of the Ministry of Works and the Rural Electrification Agency.

He will also oversee the renewable energy department, formerly under the Ministry of Environment.

Governor Namadi emphasised the importance of collaboration between Dr. Musa and his colleagues, particularly the Commissioner of Works, to ensure a seamless transition of responsibilities.

“In his new role, Mr Musa will oversee the integration of various departments previously under other ministries, notably the ministries of works and environment.

“As a commissioner, you will join the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, where you will collaborate closely with your colleagues. For example, you will take over all of the Ministry of Works’ electrical departments, as well as the Rural Electrification Agency, which is one of the Ministry’s major components. They will all come under your control, so you need to discuss them with the Commissioner of Works. In the same vein, the renewable energy department under the Ministry of Environment will now be under the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy,” the governor explained.
