President Bola Tinubu officially welcomed former Senate President, Chief Anyim Pius Anyim, into the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday.
News About Nigeria reports that Anyim, who previously served as Secretary to the Government of the Federation under President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, recently made the switch from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The formal introduction took place at the presidential villa in Abuja, where Anyim was presented to President Tinubu by Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, and Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru.
This development comes after Anyim hinted at his departure from the opposition in March 2023, when he instructed his supporters in Ebonyi State to vote for Nwifuru, the APC’s gubernatorial candidate at the time.
Following his meeting with President Tinubu, Anyim spoke to journalists, stating that his decision to join the APC was driven by a desire to contribute meaningfully to the country’s development.
This move is seen as a significant boost to the APC, as Anyim brings a wealth of experience and political clout to the party.
The defection of high-profile politicians like Anyim is often seen as a strategic move to gain influence and shape policy decisions.
This online news outlet understands that Anyim’s joining the APC may signal a shift in the political landscape as the party continues to consolidate its power ahead of future elections.
As Anyim settles into his new political party, it remains to be seen how he will utilise his expertise to drive development and growth in the country.
