A renowned legal expert, Afam Osigwe, has been elected as the new president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
News About Nigeria reports that Osigwe, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), garnered the most votes in the recent NBA election, which was conducted online.
He had previously served as the Secretary-General of the NBA and will now take the reins as president.
Additionally, Bridget Ijeoma Edokwe was elected as the Publicity Secretary of the association.
The election, which commenced on Saturday at 12 am and concluded at 1:59 pm, saw Osigwe emerge victorious with an impressive 20,395 votes.
His closest contender, Tobenna Erojikwe, chairman of the NBA Institute of Continuing Legal Education Governing Council, secured 10,970 votes, while Chukwuka Ikwuazom (SAN), former chairman of the NBA Lagos Branch, garnered 9,007 votes.
Osigwe’s victory marks a significant milestone in his illustrious career, and he is set to succeed the outgoing president, Yakubu Maikyau (SAN).
The election results were displayed in real-time on the NBA website, ensuring transparency and accountability throughout the process.

Earlier, Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, debunked reports in the media space that President Bola Tinubu, has endorsed Afam Osigwe, SAN, as his preferred candidate in the ongoing Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) election.
To buttress what he described as “these lies”, Prince Fagbemi, said he was made a point of reference for confirmation.
