Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor of Kano State has appointed three new second-class emirs to head the Rano, Gaya, and Karaye Emirates in the state.
The appointments were announced in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
The new emirs are Alhaji Muhammad Mahraz Karaye, Emir of Karaye; Alhaji Muhammad Isa Umar, Emir of Rano; and Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir Gaya, Emir of Gaya.
The governor congratulated the new emirs and urged them to promote culture, peace, and unity in their respective emirates.
The appointments are with immediate effect, and the new emirs are expected to serve as custodians of culture, peace, and unity in their respective domains.
The governor’s spokesperson noted that the appointments are in line with the state government’s efforts to promote traditional institutions and ensure peaceful coexistence among the people of Kano State.
The new emirs were appointed following the signing of a law establishing three second-class emirates in the state, with Rano covering Rano, Kibiya, and Bunkure Local Government areas; Gaya covering Gaya, Ajingi, and Albasu Local Government areas; and Karaye covering Karaye and Rogo Local Government areas.
On Tuesday, the Kano governor signed the bill creating three second-class emirates in the state.
The bill was also passed by the Kano House of Assembly.
The legislation sought to create three emirates: Rano (Rano, Bunkure, and Kibiya), Karaye (Karaye, Rogo), and Gaya (Gaya, Ajingi, and Albasu).
On May 23, Sanusi was reinstated as emir by Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano, at a colourful ceremony in the government house.

The repeal paved the way for the reinstatement of Sanusi and the dethronement of Bayero.
