The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has commenced a walk against corruption in Nigeria, News About Nigeria reports.

The Commission embarked on the road walk on Thursday morning with its stakeholders to mark the 2024 African Union Anti-Corruption Day.

The walk, which was headed by the Chairman of the Commission, Ola Olukoyede, focused on the theme “Effective Whistleblowing for Corruption-Free Nigeria.”

He noted that the goal of the walk is to highlight the importance of whistleblowing in preventing corruption in Nigeria.

Nigerians across the country have also joined in the walk.

The road walk started at the EFCC Abuja Zonal Command and ended at Unity Fountain near Transcorp Hilton.

The African Union Anti-Corruption Day, celebrated annually on July 11, aims to combat corruption across the continent.

This year’s theme, “Effective Whistleblowers Protection Mechanism: A Critical Tool in the Fight Against Corruption,” emphasises the importance of protecting whistleblowers.

The Nigerian Whistleblowing Policy, launched on December 21, 2016, encourages people to report fraud, bribery, stolen government funds, financial misconduct, abuse, and other forms of corruption to the government.

Nigerians have, however, taken to the social media to react to the walk against corruption.

A tweep, @iamcollins said, “@officialEFCC kindly walk straight to Yahaya Bello’s house and arrest him first then continue your walk to Senate and Presidential villa, you can then hit the streets and anywhere else, even my house.

@IamDONAVE wrote, “Yahaya Belo don show @officialEFCC shege promax to come outside to cry for help!

EFCC protest for change in corruption? Naija won’t cease to amaze me as a comedy nation.

@Sir_Bi…, another tweep, said, “This is in line with the doctor’s advice that regular exercise is good for the body.

“Walking also helps you lose weight. Well done EFCC.”
