The Initiative for Good Leadership and Development in Gombe has urged the Federal Government, Bauchi and Gombe states, and elected representatives to immediately intervene and repair the deplorable Bauchi-Gombe road.
This is contained in a statement issued by Tasi’u Muhammad Pantami, the group’s public relations officer, on Thursday and made available to News About Nigeria correspondents.
According to the group, the road has become a death trap, causing frequent accidents, the loss of lives and properties, and hindering socio-economic progress in the region.
Tasi’u Muhammad Pantami said that the road’s poor condition is affecting businesses, increasing transportation costs, and deterring investors, thereby limiting economic growth and opportunities for the local populace.
The group emphasised the importance of road infrastructure for growth and development, connecting communities, facilitating trade, and promoting tourism.
They called on the government and representatives to prioritise the reconstruction of the road, alleviating the suffering of commuters and demonstrating their commitment to the welfare of their electorates.
The group’s plea comes as an urgent cry for help to address the horrific experiences faced by commuters on the Bauchi-Gombe road.
In 2023, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dauda Ali Biu, announced alternative routes for the motoring public travelling through Abuja-Yola Road and those travelling from the north-eastern part of the country to the North Central
According to a report gathered from its operatives from the field, there was a failed culvert at Kalajaga village,
He added that FRSC operatives are fully on ground controlling traffic and diverting vehicles at the affected section of the road and ensuring safety for all.
