The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has ratified the selection of key officials to serve on the Agboola Ajayi Campaign Council, ahead of the November 16 governorship election.
News About Nigeria reports that this is contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Akure by the state publicity secretary of the PDP, Kennedy Peretei.
The release of the names by the party has resolved the debacle over who should announce the names of the campaign organisation.
The candidate had earlier announced the appointment of Dr. Eddy Olafeso as Chairman of its Campaign Council.
In a statement issued by Sam Ogunmusi, the spokesperson for the PDP candidate, Ajayi also announced other leaders of the party as members of the campaign organisation.
Other appointments announced included Clement Faboyede, Director General (DG) Campaign Council, Prince. John Ola Mafo, Director General (Special Duties), and Mr. Deji Aseniserare, who was appointed as Secretary of the Campaign Council.
However, the publicity secretary of the party, Hon. Kennedy Peretei, said it would not recognise any campaign council set up by the candidate without recourse to the hierarchy of the party.
Peretei said the announcement by Ogunmusi, appointing persons to coordinate the campaigns of candidate Ajayi for the November election, is not only embarrassing but a violation of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended).
But on Wednesday, Peretei said the State Working Committee (SWC) has approved the appointment of the earlier list rejected by the party as members of the campaign organisation.
He, however, amended the list to include other names of members of the state House of Assembly: Hon. Ifedayo Akinsoyinu, Deputy DG; Hon. Rasheed Elegbeleye, Deputy DG; and Bala Akinwunmi, Deputy DG.
Olafeso was the former PDP National Vice-Chairman, Southwest, former State Secretary of PDP, and former Information Commissioner.
