In a ceremonial event held at Tapa Community High School, His Royal Majesty, Oba Sunday Oyekanmi Titiloye (Abioje I), was presented with the staff and instruments of office as the newly appointed Elempe of Tapa, News About Nigeria reports.
The ceremony was presided over by Oyo State Deputy Governor, Barrister Adebayo Lawal, on behalf of Governor Seyi Makinde.
Governor Makinde, through his representative, emphasised the administration’s dedication to enhancing the traditional institutions in Oyo State.
He praised the transparent selection process of Oba Titiloye Oyekanmi, stating that it is a testament to the government’s adherence to the principles of transparency and the rule of law.
“As we gather to celebrate this momentous occasion, I charge Oba Titilayo Oyekanmi to embrace the responsibilities that come with this exalted position. I implore him to work closely with the government to address the pressing needs of our community, including education, healthcare, security, and economic development,” Governor Makinde stated.
He said the monarch has a role to play in combating kidnapping, banditry, and land grabbing, assuring government support in these efforts.
The governor also reminded Oba Titiloye Oyekanmi that leadership is a sacred trust requiring wisdom, compassion, and integrity.
“I encourage him to listen to the voices of his people, to be a unifying force, and to lead by example. His reign should be characterised by grace, humility, and a deep commitment to the well-being of all.”
Chief Ademola Ojo, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, congratulated the people of Tapa and expressed hope that the new monarch’s reign would usher in economic development and prosperity.
“This historic event serves as a pivotal moment in the chronicle of Tapa, signifying the passage of authority and leadership to a new era under the reign of our revered Oba. The ceremonial presentation of the staff of office symbolizes wisdom, valour and unity, bestowing upon His Royal Majesty the solemn duty of shepherding his people towards a brighter and more prosperous future,” he said.
In his acceptance speech, Oba Titiloye Oyekanmi pledged to perform his duties with the fear of God, promoting peace, tranquility, socio-economic balance, and social justice for the people of Tapa.
He promised to work collaboratively with both state and local governments to foster development in the area.
The ceremony was attended by notable dignitaries, including the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Akintunde Olajide, and Hon. Peter Ojedokun, representing Ibarapa North/Central state constituency, among others.
