Peter Obi Calls For Stronger Ties Between UK, Nigeria As He Congratulates Labour Party's Starmer

Former Anambra governor and presidential aspirant, Peter Obi, has congratulated the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, on his victory at the polls.

News About Nigeria had reported that Starmer of the Labour Party in the UK became the new Prime Minister of the country after the party won a majority of the seats in the parliament.

According to reports, the Labour Party secured a commanding majority in the 650-seat parliament by winning 410 seats, while the Conservatives, who were the closest rivals in the election won 117 seats.

Also, for the first time, the Liberal Democrats were able to win 70 seats in parliament.

While congratulating Starmer, Obi tasked the new Prime Minister to ensure that his victory translates to a new chapter for the country and all its residents.

He also called on the new Prime Minister to build stronger ties with Nigeria as the country would greatly benefit from the support of the UK in light of the recent challenges bedevilling the nation.

His congratulatory message shared on X reads, “I sincerely congratulate @Keir_Starmer, and the Labour Party UK on the landslide victory they recorded in Thursday’s election. May the victory translate to a better and new chapter for all the UK residents as you remain committed to your electoral promises.

“I also hope that your government will promote stronger ties between the UK and Nigeria, and help in deepening our own democracy, especially during the challenging times that our nation is going through. Nigeria is grappling with issues such as insecurity, education, healthcare, and poverty, and could greatly benefit from the support of the UK. Let us work together to build a brighter future commonwealth for all. I wish you a successful tenure.”
