Davido Can't Take Care Of Our Daughter – Sophia Momodu Responds To Singer's Suit

Davido’s baby mama, Sophia Momodu, has filed a response to the singer’s originating motions seeking custody of their daughter, Imade.

News About Nigeria reported that Davido had filed the motion through his lawyers, requesting joint custody or unfettered access to Imade.

Davido’s suit, which is marked LD/1587PMC/2024, was filed at the Lagos State High Court on April 17, 2024, with Sophia Momodu as the sole respondent.

In the 44-paragraph affidavit, the singer narrated that though he had a relationship with Momodu that led to the birth of their child on May 14, 2015, the relationship had ended some years ago, but they resolved to take care of their child as biological father and mother.

Davido, who narrated all he had put in place to give his daughter a good life, lamented that Sophia has been denying him access to Imade.

In response to Davido’s suit, Sophia, in a 100-paragraph counter-affidavit, stated that their daughter is too young to stay with Davido.

According to her, this is because of his ‘controversial lifestyle’ and the fact that he travels a lot and is already married to another woman.

She said, “Our child is a minor (9 years old), and as her mother, she has stayed with me all her life, and I have been responsible for her welfare, upkeep, and well-being, and the applicant, in his role as an artiste, always travels and allows many unsavoury male adults around him and his house, who will not be a good influence on an impressionable young female child, like our daughter.

“The applicant is an artiste who always travels around the world as mandated by his career and cannot possibly be with our daughter at crucial times. The applicant is married to another woman, and they live together. The proper upbringing of our daughter by others cannot be guaranteed. The fact that the applicant lost his son in his house in rather unfortunate and questionable circumstances shows that our daughter cannot be placed in the custody of the applicant.”

She, therefore, prayed the court to allow her to take custody of Imade as she has been her sole caregiver and primary financial provider for the past few years since Davido started failing in his commitment.
