Wizkid Pays Tribute To Late Mother On Her First Posthumous Birthday

Nigerian superstar Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, paid an emotional tribute to his late mother, Morayo Balogun, on her first posthumous birthday, News About Nigeria reports.

Taking to social media on Thursday, Wizkid celebrated her life and expressed his deep sense of loss.

“Happy birthday, love of my life! I miss you every day. The first one without you here feels unreal. Nothing makes sense without you, Mama! Life is empty without you,” he wrote.

“Continue to watch over us! My heart is broken forever! Love you, love, love you, Morayo mi. Your smile is a memory I will never forget. Your laugh! Your hugs and kisses. I miss you dearly!”

Wizkid also shared, “Morayo!! Best album I ever made!! Now listen! It’s only up from here!”

Wizkid’s mother, Jane Dolapo Morayo Balogun, passed away on August 18, 2023, and was laid to rest on October 13, 2023.

The wake-keep ceremony took place at the Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos on October 12, 2023, marking Wizkid’s first public appearance since her passing.

During the wake-keep, Wizkid, visibly emotional, addressed the attendees and shared his feelings about the profound pain of losing his mother.

He described the loss as an enduring pain and expressed his hope for divine comfort for himself, his family, and all who shared in their grief.

“I have no words to describe the pain that I feel. I know everyone in my family shares this pain with me, but I know God in His infinite mercies is going to… it’s impossible for the pain to go away so I’m not going to say take away the pain, but He’s going to comfort us,” he said.

“The pain is profound, it hurts deeply, it’s the deepest pain I’ve ever felt in my life. I’m lost but I pray God comforts every one of us.”
