GWR Deactivates 'Cook-A-Thon' Category After Ghanaian Chef Forged Certificate

Guinness World Records (GWR) has deactivated its ‘cook-a-thon’ category after a Ghanaian chef identified as Ebenezer Smith, forged its certificate.

News About Nigeria reports that the move to deactivate the category is consistent with the organisation’s practice of discontinuing records that cannot be accurately measured or verified.

Recall that the Ghanaian chef had falsely claimed to have set a new record for the longest cooking marathon.

However, Guinness World Records has dismissed his claim, stating that he does not hold the title and his certificate is not authentic.

Following their confirmation, Chef Smith has been reportedly arrested.

The organisation also confirmed that the actual record holder is Alan Fisher from Ireland, who achieved a record time of 119 hours, 57 minutes, and 16 seconds in Japan in 2023.

The revelation about the deactivation of the category was made known by a social media user identified as @BBSimons in a post shared on X.

His post reads, “Guinness World Records deactivates its “cookathon” category after it seems to have inspired an unstoppable frenzy in certain parts of the world. In Ghana, one contender, displaying a certificate as the new record holder, claims to have cooked for more than 30 days.”

Reacting to his revelation, @agyei67, “They should have just ban Africans from applying and leave it for the rest of the world.”

Also, @lexoo2020 wrote, “The corruption traits in the Ghanaian is amazing.”

Another X user wrote, “@bryantt wrote, “Good development. The record have been abused in recent time.”

@aishaa_ also said, “Everyone is just trying to cook.”
