Popular Nigerian doctor and social media influencer, Chinonso Egemba, popularly known as Aproko Doctor, has claimed that it is not necessary to scrub the body with sponge everyday when bathing, News About Nigeria reports.
He stated this in a video on his Instagram page on Monday.
Aproko Doctor noted that the body does not actually need a sponge.
According to him, scrubbing the skin too vigorously with a sponge will result in the skin tearing in ways not visible to the ordinary eyes, known as micro tears.
He maintained that when the skin has micro tears, it gives way for micro-organisms to be introduced into the skin, which, often times, leads to skin infection.
Aproko Doctor further disclosed that the skin has natural oils and scrubbing vigorously with sponges strips the skin of the natural oils.
He also advised those who experience itching of the skin after bath to stop making use of the sponge, and maintained that they will experience a relief and the itching will stop.
He, however, noted that for those who do strenuous and manual jobs or work in visibly dirty environments, making use of the sponge might help.
However, Aproko Doctor urged them to ensure the sponge is soft and is not used every day of the week.
He noted that making use of the hands to rub soap on the body is more effective.
According to him, this is the reason why soap adverts don’t make use of sponges to advertise their soaps.
