The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has ordered the arrest of two officers implicated in the assault of a female staff member at the Regional Hotel in Ojo, Lagos.
News About Nigeria reported that the incident, which occurred during an early morning sting operation, was captured in a viral video that showed the officers manhandling the hotel employee.
The operation itself led to the apprehension of several suspects who are currently undergoing profiling.
In response to the viral video and the public backlash it received, Olukoyede has mandated a thorough investigation into both the conduct of the operation and the actions of the officers involved.
He said that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against any officers found culpable.
Olukoyede reassured the public that the EFCC remains committed to carrying out its duties professionally and with strict adherence to the rule of law.
The EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the chairman’s directives in a statement issued on June 27, 2024. The statement read: “The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has ordered the arrest of two officers of the commission allegedly involved in the manhandling of a female staff member of the Regional Hotel, Ojo, Lagos.
“The officers were sighted in a viral video assaulting the staff of the hotel during an early morning sting operation in Lagos. The operation yielded a sizable number of suspects who are still being profiled.
“The EFCC boss has also ordered detailed investigations of the operation carried out at the hotel and assured that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against any of the officers found to be culpable.
“Olukoyede assures the general public that the EFCC will continue to carry out its job professionally and with profound respect for the rule of law.”
