President Bola Tinubu chaired a meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Tuesday.

News About Nigeria reports that during the meeting, the council approved the purchase of 33 Mikano CNG-powered vehicles for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The vehicles, worth N1.99 billion, are intended to enhance the agency’s operations.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, announced the decision to reporters after the meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

According to him, “the procurement of 33 Mikano motor vehicles CNG powered is to boost the operation of NDLEA, which the Council considered and approved.”

Fagbemi further disclosed that the Council also approved the procurement of firearms and ammunition to strengthen the counter-narcotics fight.

He hinted that the procurement of the ammunition is for the sum of $1.442b.

Fagbemi further revealed the procurement of two units of body scanners to be deployed for use both in Abuja and at the International Airport for a sum of N985 million.

President Bola Tinubu presided over the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, which reconvened on Tuesday, June 25, following a six-week hiatus since the last meeting.

The last FEC meeting was a two-day marathon deliberation that dealt with a huge number of memoranda on Monday, May 13 and 14.

Among those attending the meeting were the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; the president’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; and the Head of Service, Dr. Folashade Yemi Esan.

Today’s meeting comes amid soaring inflation, an unresolved national minimum wage issue, and other socio-economic challenges.
