Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has voiced her concern about the growing trend of young girls referring to themselves as ‘baddies’ without having anything substantial to show for it.
In a recent interview on Arise Television, Akindele said creating meaningful content and positively influencing the audience is important.
“I enjoy watching beautiful content. But you have to watch what you churn out. You need to focus on your brand, what you are selling. What you want people to learn from you,” Akindele stated.
She said that it is the responsibility of actors and self-made individuals to produce content that positively influences the next generation.
Funke Akindele urged content creators to be mindful of the impact they have on their audience.
“You must influence their lives positively with the contents you churn out. For you that are watching content, what are you watching? To be entertained or to learn? You don’t come in there as a troll. You don’t come in there to impress people. You don’t.”
She also warned against the deception often found on social media, where appearances can be misleading.
“Or because A is carrying designer bags and showing it off on video. How sure are you that she’s not borrowing the bags? How sure are you that she is rich? Don’t believe everything on social media. Stay positive. Churn out what will promote you. What will push you out there positively?”
Expressing her worries about the so-called ‘baddies’, Akindele said, “I’m so worried about the so-called baddies. A baddie without showcasing what you have up there? We need to know what you are doing. What positive content you are filming. What you are doing that people will be proud of. Give us that on the table.”
Funke Akindele praised influential figures like Mo Abudu, Sade Okoya, and Hilda Baci, who balance their glamorous lifestyles with substantial achievements.
“It’s good to showcase fashion. I love to watch Mo Abudu’s videos. I love to watch Sade Okoya’s pictures. I’m stuck on their pages. Hilda Baci, I love to watch her. But she cooks.
“With the glitz-glam, Aunty Mo is breaking records. Aunty Okoya is managing the business like no man’s business. With the fashion, the glitz-glams, they have something up there to show us. Even if you love to dance, what else do you have?”
