Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has humorously addressed fans about her recent difficulty standing straight, attributing it to the ‘weight of responsibility’ she feels in carrying the Afrobeats genre on her back.
The rising star made the lighthearted revelation on her social media platform, X (formerly Twitter).
“Guys, I actually can’t stand straight, it’s not my fault. My waist is bent from carrying Afrobeats on my back this year,” Ayra Starr tweeted.
News About Nigeria reported in August 2023 that the ‘Rush’ singer labelled her music as cross-generational, signalling its appeal to a wide spectrum of listeners.
She said this while repsonding to a tweet that pointed out how her music resonates with a wide audience, including children.
The tweet remarked, “Ayra Starr got kids singing her songs like nursery rhymes.”
In her response, Ayra Starr expressed pride in her music’s broad appeal and predicted that the children singing her songs now will grow into teenagers who exclusively listen to her music.
“That’s the whole point lol, in 5 years those same children will be teenagers that only listen to Ayra Starr! The music is cross-generational, if you no like am, your children go like am. I’m gonna be here for a long time,” she tweeted.
Ayra Starr’s rise to fame began in early 2021 with her debut extended play “Ayra Starr” and its hit track “Away”.
The song spent two consecutive weeks at number four on Nigeria’s TurnTable Top 50 chart and peaked at number 17 on the Billboard Top Triller Global chart. This success paved the way for her first full-length album, “19 & Dangerous”, released later that year.
