Ekiti Govt Assures Residents Of Safety Amid Killings

The Ekiti State Government has assured its residents of maximum safety amid the killings going on in the state, News About Nigeria reports.

The Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, gave this assurance in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, CPS, Yinka Oyebode, via X on Friday.

Recall that in recent times, there have been ongoing killings, with at least three people shot dead in broad daylight within 48 hours in the state by unknown gunmen.

The governor condemned the killings and stated that the security agencies in the state are tackling them, adding that those behind the senseless killings will be caught and will face the full wrath of the law.

Governor Oyebanji, who spoke with journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday evening, noted that the killings were perpetrated by some unscrupulous elements in the state.

He reiterated that his administration has zero tolerance for cultism, violent activities, and other forms of criminality.

He maintained that the state is one of the most secured states in the country and assured the people that his government is on top of the situation.

“What happened in the last few days is so unfortunate, we don’t have that history in Ekiti State. This is a new development, we are on top of it and we are monitoring the situation and we have the intelligence of those responsible. I have instructed the security agencies to go after them, they cannot turn Ekiti State into a haven of cult activities.

“I commiserate with the families of those who lost their loved ones. I also advise our young ones to desist from these nefarious activities.

“The state is one of the most secured states in the country, even in the most secured countries in the world, we have pockets of criminalities. We have to be on top of the situation. And I can assure you our Government is on top of the situation,” he stated.

He, therefore, urged the people of the state to remain calm and go about their daily activities unmolested, adding that all efforts are being made to flush criminal elements out of the state.
