Special Assistant to former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, and Human Rights Activist, Reno Omokri, have stated that the government is not responsible for the unemployment of youths in the country, News About Nigeria reports.
In a statement via his verified handle on X on Wednesday, he noted that the government should not be blamed for unemployment when the youths have a university degree, adding that it is their fault that they studied courses that have no relevance to their nation or environment.
According to him, people should study courses that are tailored to meet the needs of the Labour market.
“Stop blaming the government for being unemployed despite your having a university degree. The government is not to blame. You chose to go to university to read a useless course that has no relevance to the nation or your environment instead of tailoring your university education to meet the needs of the labour market.
“The labour market needs teachers, doctors, engineers, agricultural workers, nurses, coders, web designers, system maintainers, etc. You read sociology, philosophy, theatre arts, linguistics, political science, library science, religious studies, etc,” he stated.
He further stated that artificial intelligence (AI) has rendered some courses more irrelevant than they were before.
Omokri maintained that businesses will not employ people with degrees they do not need.
“Now that AI has rendered your course even more irrelevant than it was before, you have now joined the bandwagon to blame the government.
“Even you, do you go to the market to buy what you don’t need? So, how do you expect businesses to employ people with degrees they do not need? How many unemployed doctors, nurses, coders, agricultural engineers and web designers have you seen? Read a relevant course, not an elegant one!” he added.
