FG Explains Samoa Agreement, Says It Will Benefit Nigeria

The 24 All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates from the 2023 Abia State House of Assembly election have called on President Bola Tinubu to address the ongoing factional issues within the party, News About Nigeria reports.

This appeal follows a reconciliation mission to Abuja led by the sole elected APC lawmaker in the State House of Assembly, Anderson Akaliro.

The meeting was held at the Abuja residence of prominent party chieftain, Hon Dike Uche.

During their visit to Abuja on Monday, the candidates issued a communiqué titled “Abia APC Crisis Peace Initiative.”

Akaliro said that the national leadership of the APC needed to convene a meeting involving all party leaders and stakeholders to resolve the impasse.

“We are calling on President Tinubu, the APC national leadership and the National Assembly members from Abia State and all individual factions to come together so that the factions within the ranks and files of the party would be dissolved into one indivisible unit.

“We are aware of the forthcoming congress, and we employ the party leadership to commit to ensuring that all interest groups are duly represented in the state, local government areas, and ward party positions.”

Akaliro stated that the party seeks unity because the presence of multiple factions led to its defeat in the election.

He said that out of the 24 candidates who ran for the State Assembly, 23 were unsuccessful, as only one APC member won a seat.

Akaliro described the reconciliation effort as fruitful while adding that some individuals benefiting from the crisis avoided the meeting.

Akaliro urged the party to leverage the influx of new members to create a unified front, enabling the APC in Abia State to effectively combat common adversaries and prepare for future electoral victories.
