Senator Ahmad Lawan, representing Yobe North Senatorial District, has distributed N222.5 million in cash and food items to his constituents ahead of the 2024 Eid-el-Kabir celebration, News About Nigeria reports.
The distribution took place on Friday and covered six local government areas: Bade, Jakusko, Karasuwa, Yusufari, Machina, and Nguru.
The senator, who previously served as the President of the 9th Senate, facilitated this distribution through a committee he established.
His spokesperson, Dr. Ezrel Tabiowo, stated that the initiative targeted beneficiaries within and beyond the district.
According to Tabiowo, 3,430 households benefited from the senator’s generosity, receiving cash support ranging from N100,000 to N200,000.
The recipients also included traditional leaders, All Progressives Congress (APC) executives, and stakeholders in Yobe North.
In addition to the cash, the distribution included 1,500 cartons of spaghetti, 1,140 bags of maize and guinea corn, 1,500 items of children’s clothing, 800 women’s wrappers, 2,000 blankets, and 2,000 mats.
Beneficiaries of these food and material items extended to orphanages within the senatorial district.
Alhaji Suleiman Jamo, Chairman of the Selection and Distribution Committee, explained that the gesture aimed to alleviate the economic hardship faced by constituents.
“We understand that many of our constituents are going through difficult times, and this gift from Sen. Ahmad Lawan is a token of his support to help them celebrate with joy and peace,” he said.
Senator Lawan expressed gratitude to the committee for their efforts in meeting his expectations and urged beneficiaries to use the items wisely during the festive period.
He conveyed his wishes for a blessed and peaceful Eid el-Kabir celebration.
