Former APC NWC Member Accuses Buhari, Tinubu Of Destroying Democracy

A former member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Lukman, accused President Bola Tinubu and former President Muhammadu Buhari of making a mess of democracy in Nigeria on Saturday.

News About Nigeria reports that Lukman, who is the immediate-past National Vice Chairman, Northwest, of the APC, said this in a statement issued on Saturday.

The APC chieftain lamented that both the previous and current administrations of the APC have failed to deliver the dividends of democracy to Nigerians.

Lukman said, “The way and manner in which both former President Buhari and President Tinubu have managed the affairs of the country without consulting party leadership and structures in the last nine years made a mockery of democracy. The crisis of high costs of living, rising unemployment, and high levels of poverty are becoming unbearable.

“The nation is on the edge of a social outburst. Unfortunately, the APC, even under President Asiwaju Tinubu, is turning out to be unable to respond to the problems of high cost of living, rising unemployment, and higher levels of poverty and mitigate the hardships facing ordinary Nigerians.

“The bigger calamity is that President Tinubu is turning out to be an extreme right-wing leader and not a liberal capitalist. The speed with which he declared that petroleum ‘subsidy is gone’ even before settling down as president and the inability to have a clear policy plan to cushion the effect for vulnerable Nigerians highlighted the ideological leaning of President Tinubu.”

He, therefore, called on President Tinubu and the leadership of the APC to come to the aid of Nigerians in the current economic challenges bedevilling the nation.
