A Niger resident who travelled on a holy pilgrimage to the kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the 2024 annual Hajj pilgrimage, Ramatu Abubakar, has passed away.

The state’s Pilgrims Welfare Board announced the death of Ramatu Abubakar in a statement.

News About Nigeria learned that the deceased was 45 years old.

The death of the Niger State pilgrim was contained in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the board, Jibrin Usman Kodo.

The statement said that the deceased was among the pilgrims on the first flight that departed Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport in Minna for Saudi Arabia last week.

According to the statement, Abubakar, who hails from the Bida local government area of the state, died in Madina after she fell ill on arrival and was admitted to the hospital, where she passed away.

Last week, the Secretary of the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Saheed Onipede, announced via a statement released by the agency spokesperson, Taofeek Lawal, that a Lagos State Hajj pilgrim, Idris Oloshogbo, passed away in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

Last week, Muhammad Suleman from Argungu Local Government and Tawalkatu Busare Alako from Jega Local Government—all in Kebbi State—died in Makkah.

The pilgrims from Kebbi passed away after a brief illness in Mecca, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The deceased were buried according to Muslim rites in the Holy City of Makkah.

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) began airlifting pilgrims from Nigeria on May 15.

As of May 26, 20,154 pilgrims from the 65,000 billed to be airlifted arrived in Saudi Arabia for the 2024 Hajj.
