Troops Arrest Five Notorious Gunrunners In Plateau

Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), the special task force responsible for internal security in Plateau State, has declared 11 individuals wanted in connection with a series of attacks and killings in various local government areas, including Barkin Ladi, Bassa, Bokkos, and Riyom.

News About Nigeria reports that the deputy commander of OPSH, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Terzungwe Iyua, announced at a press briefing on Friday that these individuals are wanted for their alleged involvement in multiple violent incidents.

DCP Iyua mentioned that a substantial reward would be offered to anyone who provided information leading to their arrest.

The names of the wanted persons are:

  1. Muhammadu MP from Bokkos, phone: 09114827408
  2. Muhammed (aka MOPOL), phone: 09126869112

  10. Hassan Waje from Yamusa Bago hamlet in Machambe Village

DCP Iyua stated that, despite efforts to restore peace in the region, these people have continued to disrupt progress.

He said Operation Safe Haven will bring the perpetrators of these crimes to justice, noting that intelligence-led operations have already led to several arrests and neutralisations.

“In line with our mandate, we have not rested in our efforts to apprehend those responsible for these heinous crimes. Through sustained intelligence operations and forensic investigations, we have identified the suspects,” said Iyua.

The deputy commander pointed out recent attacks that have exacerbated the situation, such as the Christmas Eve attack in 2023 on parts of Barkin Ladi and Mangu local government areas and subsequent attacks in Bokkos and Mangu in April and May 2024.

“Operation Safe Haven continues to take proactive steps towards securing lives and property in the Joint Operations Area,” Iyua added.

“However, our efforts have been occasionally thwarted by enemies of peace.”

OPSH has urged anyone with useful information about the whereabouts of the wanted suspects to contact them, the Nigerian Police Force, or the Department of State Services via the following numbers: 07059473022, 08074633336, 08038907662, 08055593500, 08075391844, and 09053872296.

“A handsome reward awaits any person or group who provides information leading to the arrest of these suspects,” DCP Iyua concluded.
