Tinubu Didn't Interfere In My Reinstatement – Emir Sanusi

Emir Muhammadu Sanusi has clarified that President Bola Tinubu did not interfere in his reinstatement as the Emir of Kano, contrary to speculations.

News About Nigeria reports that Sanusi’s reinstatement was announced by Governor Abba Yusuf on Thursday, following the signing of the new Kano Emirate Council Law, which repealed the 2019 version that divided the emirate into five jurisdictions and led to Sanusi’s dethronement in 2020.

In an interview with Television Continental (TVC), Sanusi commended Tinubu for recognising the matter as a local issue and resisting pressure to interfere.

He expressed gratitude to the president for his principled stance, which allowed the state government to take the necessary steps to correct the injustice done to the people, culture, and tradition of Kano.

He said, “I would also like to express my thanks to his excellency Alhaji Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; without his principled stance of non-interference in the internal affairs of the state, this would not have been possible.

“The president has shown that he is a respecter of the constitution and the separation of powers, he recognises that this is a purely local matter and that the government has a responsibility to do what is right for the state. I’m aware that he has resisted all pressure to get the federal government involved.”

Sanusi described his return to the throne as a correction of the injustice done to the emirate, which was balkanized and attacked through the division into five emirates. He said that he was not given the opportunity to defend himself against the allegations of insubordination that led to his dethronement.

The former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor expressed his appreciation for the support of the Kano state government and security services in maintaining law and order.

He assured the state and federal governments of his loyalty and cooperation, stating that they could count on him as a friend, confidant, and adviser.
