The 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has spoken publicly for the first time since news broke of his potential reinstatement as Emir.
News About Nigeria reports that the monarch said he has had his fair share of controversies.
Sanusi made this statement at the ongoing Rivers Economic and Investment Summit in Port Harcourt, where he was the keynote speaker.
The summit marks Sanusi’s first public appearance since the news broke and comes hours after the Kano State Assembly repealed the law used by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to dethrone him in 2020.
Sanusi, who was invited by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, said he honored the invitation despite his tight schedule, out of respect for the governor and the people of Rivers. He noted that he had initial apprehensions about speaking publicly, given the risk of misinterpretation and sensationalism.
“I’m sure we all agree that I have had my fair share of controversy,” Sanusi said. “However, honor begets honor, and I regard the invitation of His Excellency as an absolute honor, and that’s why I am here.”
Sanusi commended the Fubara administration for seeking a new path for growth and prosperity.
He noted that many young people with first-class degrees are unemployed due to a lack of skills, and urged the state to implement robust education and skills training programs to prepare youths for the future.
“The key to economic development is human capital,” Sanusi said. “Investing in people is paramount. Rivers State needs robust education and skills training programs that essentially aim to prepare youths to be the future for us.”
