Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims of being distracted by the political saga in Rivers State.
News About Nigeria reports that Wike made the statement on Friday, May 17, while inspecting key projects in Abuja scheduled for commissioning by President Bola Tinubu starting May 27 to mark his one-year in office.
Wike said, “I am not distracted as FCT minister. If I’m distracted, you will not see all these projects in FCT.”
He said that President Tinubu will be commissioning projects spanning nine days in FCT.
The minister’s statement comes amidst insinuations that he is directly involved by the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, where he served as the immediate past governor.
In a related development, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara declared victory over the enemies of the state in the ongoing crisis.
He made the disclosure during a solidarity walk to the Government House in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
Fubara acknowledged the support of the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) and urged the Ijaw nation to join in celebrating the state’s liberation. He emphasized that every genuine Rivers man is a liberator, united by the common purpose of liberation.
Fubara expressed gratitude for the crowd’s support and solidarity, stating that peace would not be disrupted as the enemies of the state had already been defeated. He praised the Ijaw people for their courage and resilience, attributing their strength to the “blood of action—less talk, more action” that runs through their veins.
“Every Rivers man, it doesn’t matter whether you are Ijaw or upland, the most important thing is that every genuine Rivers man must be a liberator,” he said.
