Rivers Commissioner For Environment Joins Mmon, Resigns From Fubara's Cabinet

A few hours after the resignation of the Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Professor Chinedu Mmon, from Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s cabinet, another commissioner in the state resigned.

News About Nigeria reported that Mmon gave his reason for resigning as the toxicity in Governor Fubara’s cabinet.

Citing the political crisis rocking the state as his reason for resigning, the Rivers State Commissioner for Environment, Ben-Golden Chioma, tendered his resignation on Wednesday in a letter dated May 15, 2024.

Chioma, who submitted his resignation letter to the governor through the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, is also a loyalist of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the immediate former governor of the state, Nyesom Wike.

In his resignation letter, Chioma thanked Governor Fubara for the privilege given to him to be part of his cabinet, wishing him all the best in his tenure as Rivers State governor.

The commissioner said that his decision to leave was due to the political crisis in the state, and was also based on personal reasons.

The former Commissioner for Environment said, “I hereby tender my resignation as the Hon. Commissioner for Environment, Rivers State, on this day the 15th May, 2024. I want to sincerely appreciate your Excellency, for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the State Executive Council.

“My decision to resign is due to the political crisis befalling our dear Rivers State and other personal reasons. It was a privilege to have been of service to you in your administration and I wish you all the best in your tenure.”
