Student Bullied At Lead British International School Files Civil Suit Against School Management

Namtira Bwala, a student at Lead British International School in Abuja, has taken legal action against the school management following an incident of bullying she endured on the premises, News About Nigeria reports.

In a civil suit filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, through her lawyer, Marvin Omorogbe, Bwala accuses the school of failing in its duty to provide a safe and conducive learning environment.

The lawsuit, handled by Deji Adeyanju and Partners, seeks redress for the emotional and physical harm Bwala experienced as a result of the school’s alleged negligence.

Bwala is demanding, among other things, a public apology to be published in two national dailies and the sum of N500 million in general damages.

In the court documents, Bwala said that as a student of Lead British International School, the institution owed her a duty of care to protect her from physical or emotional harm and breaches of privacy while under its custody and supervision.

She alleges that the school’s failure to prevent the assault, torment, emotional distress, pain, and trauma she suffered constitutes negligent conduct on the part of the school.

The lawsuit further demands that the school pay N500 million in general damages for breaching its duty of care and negligently allowing the assault, torment, emotional distress, pain, trauma, and breach of privacy to occur.

The legal action comes in the wake of a viral video showing Bwala being physically bullied and assaulted by her classmate, Maryam Hassan.

In the footage, Bwala is seen being slapped and harassed by Hassan, who repeatedly asks, “Who broke my heart?”

The incident sparked outrage on social media, with many condemning the act of bullying and calling for accountability from the school management.
