The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, on Saturday said that he is committed to the welfare of his troops as he derives joy from their happiness, News About Nigeria reports.
During a press briefing at a special volleyball match held in honour of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Gen. Musa said he believes that it is his responsibility to ensure that his troops are properly catered for.
He also noted that he cannot function well if his men are not well taken care of and are unhappy.
He further said that it is line with this mandate that Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, were invited to Nigeria to pay tribute to wounded soldiers and veterans.
The Chief of Defence Staff also lauded the wounded soldiers and veterans, noting that they risk their lives just to serve humanity and Nigeria.
He said, “These guys have given everything they have just to make sure that Nigeria remains one. These individuals have families and people that depend on them but we will never allow the situation they are in, to keep them out. That is why, for me particularly, it is very important for the morale of my men.
“For me, I cannot function if my men are not happy and I will do whatever it takes for me to make sure that they are happy. That is why we are acknowledging what they have done and we are commending them and we appreciate the sacrifices they are making.”
