64th Independence: Fubara Calls For Unity In Tackling Challenges

Siminalayi Fubara, the Governor of Rivers State, stormed the State Assembly residential quarters in Aba Road, Port Harcourt, the River State capital, on Thursday.

News About Nigeria reports that the governor’s visit follows threats to impeach him from office by opposition parties in the state.

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state had petitioned the State Assembly to impeach Governor Fubara over his alleged disrespect and disregard for the office of the president.

According to the APC, the governor has failed to implement all eight points of the peace agreement he signed when President Bola Tinubu intervened in the crisis that rocked the state last year.

Also, the Rivers State Local Government Areas Chairmen on Wednesday threw their weight behind the APC, demanding that Fubara be impeached.

Furthermore, the political crisis in Rivers State took a new twist yesterday (Wednesday) when lawmakers loyal to Governor Fubara elected the member representing Bonny constituency, Victor Oko-Jumbo, as their Speaker.

Oko-Jumbo is one of the four lawmakers loyal to the governor during the political crisis in the state.

However, during his stopover today at the State Assembly, Fubara explained that he didn’t visit because of the impeachment threat.

The Governor further noted that his visit was to properly access the residential quarters of the State House of Assembly to ensure that they were in good condition.

Fubara, who took a walk around the building, noted that his primary concern is to ensure that the lawmakers live well and that the property is well maintained.
