Fresh Twist As Rivers APC Members Reject Call For Fubara's Impeachment

A group of All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Rivers State, under the Solidarity and Development Forum, has dismissed the call for Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s impeachment.

This comes after the APC state chairman, Tony Okocha, directed the Rivers State House of Assembly to commence impeachment proceedings against Fubara on Tuesday, News About Nigeria reports.

The latest development is a result of the ongoing political crisis in the state, fueled by the face-off between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

However, the APC members, believed to be Fubara’s loyalists, have described the call for impeachment as “reckless and irresponsible.”

In a statement signed by conveners Kabir Matazu and Igwe Ude-Umanta, the group said that the renewed crisis was unnecessary as President Bola Tinubu had already settled the matter.

They criticised Tony Okocha’s utterance towards Fubara, stating that it disregarded Tinubu’s call for peace and threatened to destabilise the government and create chaos in the state.

The statement read, “The President himself has called for all parties involved in the disagreement to maintain the status quo and work towards a peaceful resolution. Governor Fubara has heeded this call and demonstrated his commitment to the vision of inclusivity and good governance that our dear president has upheld since assuming office.”

The group praised President Tinubu’s efforts in building a government devoid of nepotism and marginalisation and working with people of diverse political affiliations.

They urged party members to resonate with the president’s vision, stating that it would be unfair and unwise not to do so.

The statement continued, “We are appalled by the chairman’s unguided fervour and lack of understanding of the complex challenges facing Rivers State. His actions are a dent in our respectable image and a good representation of what our party stands for.”

The group accused Tony Okocha of losing sight of the APC’s vision and principles, compromising the party’s integrity and status. They called for his immediate resignation as Rivers State APC Chairman, stating that his continued stay in office would destabilise the party and the state.
