Prioritise Security Of Lives Of Nigerians - Obi To FG

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has said he is being harassed by agencies within the Bola Tinubu-led government.

Peter Obi made the claim on Friday, May 3, while speaking to journalists in Canada, where he was on a “thank you” tour to appreciate Nigerians living in the country for their support during the 2023 campaign, News About Nigeria reports.

According to Peter Obi, government agencies have been organising town hall meetings and calling him names, even though he is no longer running for office.

The former Anambra State Governor, however, stated that he is not bothered by the development, adding that many people would be shocked if they knew what he goes through every day.

Obi said, “If I reveal what I go through daily, you’ll ask me why I’m still in this. But I’m in it. Government agencies, and tools of government, even when I’m not running for office, call me names every day. They now organise town hall meetings just for me. No problem, it doesn’t bother me.”

The former governor urged his supporters to continue on the path of progress, saying, “Let’s keep doing what we were doing. We did well, and we should be proud of it and continue on that trajectory.”

The latest development comes amid criticisms by Obi, who has been vocal in his demands for good governance and accountability.

Recently, Obi hit back at the Federal Government over allegations of incitement, following his criticism of the trillion-naira Coastal Highway Project.

Obi maintained his stance that the project is not a priority for Nigeria.

He said the allegations are a divisive attempt to distract from the real issues.

He warned that the project would lead to job losses, increased hunger, and widespread poverty in a country already facing significant challenges.

Obi has instead encouraged the need to prioritise internal roads to stimulate economic growth.
