On Friday, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State declared that his administration is committed to the well-being of the people of the state, not politicians, as previous administrations in the state did, News About Nigeria reports.
According to the governor, his primary goal is to ensure that the masses enjoy the dividends of democracy and good leadership.
He noted that since the state returned to democracy in 1999, what the people have experienced is leaders who are focused on enriching themselves and their cabinets while leaving the masses to languish in poverty.
The governor said this while hosting a delegation of Course 17, Syndicate 2 of the National Institute for Security Studies, Abuja, at the Government House in Umuahia, the Abia state capital.
He explained that he was on a mission to make the masses, not just a ‘handful’ of privileged politicians,’ who have already established themselves.
He further noted that for him, being the governor of Abia State means working to ensure that the people have a taste of good governance.
Speaking further, he noted that his recent decision to wipe off the backlog of pension arrears owed to retirees since 2014, is part of his administration’s commitment to the people.
Otti pledged that, under his watch, Abia would never owe pensioners what was due them.
The governor further revealed that he has directed that pensioners be paid along with workers on the 28th of every month, which already started in the month of April.
Otti said, “Never again shall Abia pensioners be owed their pension. This is the people’s time; politicians have helped themselves enough for the past 24 years.”
