OGUN CCIMA Warns Of Dire Consequences Of Hike In Fuel Price

The House of Representatives has assured Nigerians that they will soon experience relief from the issue of fuel scarcity bedevilling the country, News About Nigeria reports.

The Chairman of the Petroleum Downstream Committee, Rep. Ikenga Ugochinyere, made this known while speaking at a joint news conference in Abuja on Wednesday.

He expressed his concerns over what he described as the temporary presence of fuel queues in petrol stations across the country and added that investigations carried out by the House revealed the fuel queues and the scarcity to be artificial.

He also stated that the investigation revealed the availability of petrol products in the country, noting that there are at least 1.5 billion litres of petrol in storage facilities.

“We express our concerns over the temporary presence of fuel queues in petrol stations across the country. However, based on our investigation, we are convinced that this is a temporary situation, and in a couple of days, we shall overcome it.

“We have discovered that petrol products are available. We have it on good authority that we have at least 1.5 billion liters of petrol in our storage facilities,” he stated.

Ugochinyere further stated that the House has received assurances from regulators in the distribution value chain that these bottlenecks have been cleared.

He added that more progress will be made over the public holiday and that it will take a few more days for things to return to normal.

He, therefore, urged Nigerians not to panic, adding that the House and all agencies involved are working hard to resolve the issues.

“It will require more time, like two to three days, for products to be distributed to all stations nationwide,” he added.
