The Rivers State House of Representatives caucus has sympathised with families who lost their loved ones in the explosion that rocked the state on Friday, News About Nigeria reports.
They expressed their sadness over the unfortunate incident in a statement signed by the caucus leader, Rt Hon Dumnamene Dekor.
The House caucus, which paid visits to some survivors over the weekend, consoled them and promised to support their hospital bills.
Recall that on Friday night, there was a tanker explosion along Eleme Road, a major commercial axis of Rivers State, which claimed many lives and destroyed at least 70 cars and immovable assets on the East-West Road.
“The news of the inferno that engulfed the Eleme axis of Rivers State on Friday night, claiming many lives and destroying scores of movable and immovable assets on the East-West Road was a very sad development.
“As true representatives of our people, we express our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones affected by the tragic inferno.
“Our heart aches for the lives lost and the profound grief that now engulfs our dear Rivers State,” the statement reads in part.
Dekor noted that unity is needed in hard times like this and urged the people to come together to support one another and offer comfort, strength, and compassion to those in need.
He also appealed to the people of the state to lend a helping hand to those affected and to provide whatever assistance they could during this difficult time.
He maintained that safety measures and prevention strategies should be taken seriously to avoid such tragedies in the future.
“As the good people of Rivers State and Nigerians mourn the loss of precious lives, let us also reflect on the importance of safety measures and prevention strategies to avoid such tragedies in the future. We must work together to ensure the safety and well-being of all members of our community,” he added.
