The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) to resolve the issues surrounding the scarcity of fuel in the country, News About Nigeria reports.
The president, Comrade Akinteye Afeez, made this call in a statement on Sunday.
He stated that Nigerian students are the ones bearing the brunt of the fuel scarcity currently ongoing in the country.
He criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who, he noted, oversees the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources and is tasked with directing petroleum resources and activities in Nigeria, and Mele Kyari, who is the Group Chief Executive Officer, GCEO.
According to him, their tenure have been marked by the worst fuel crisis in recent memory.
Afeez claimed that the association and Nigerian students in general have never witnessed such prolonged shortages and disruptions to fuel supply, adding that it will not be accepted as the new normal.
“The consequences of this fuel crisis are dire, with electricity supply remaining unreliable, prices soaring, and essential services paralyzed. Nigerian students, along with the rest of the population, are bearing the brunt of this crisis on a daily basis. We demand immediate action from the NNPCL to resolve the fuel crisis and restore stability to our nation,” he stated.
He, therefore, proposed measures that the government can take to resolve the fuel crisis, including transparency and accountability in providing information about the state of fuel supply and distribution.
Afeez added that infrastructure and logistics must be improved to ensure the efficient distribution of fuel across the country.
He also noted that bottlenecks and inefficiencies in the supply chain must be addressed promptly, maintaining that Nigerian students cannot afford to suffer any longer under ineffective leadership.
