Police Begins Investigation Into Aiyedatiwa's Campaign Coordinator's Murder

The campaign coordinator for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in Supare, Akoko South West Local Government Area, Alaba Abbey, has been shot dead at his residence.

Abbey, who was also the returning officer for the recent APC governorship primary election and ward coordinator for the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot Soldiers (LACO-SF) in Ward 10, was killed at about 9 pm on Saturday, shortly after returning home, News About Nigeria reports.

According to his elder brother, Samuel Abbey, the assailants struck while Alaba was relaxing in front of his house.

Meanwhile, the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot Soldiers Independent Council (LACO-FSIC)-SF has condemned the murder and urged security agencies to provide protection for its members across the state.

Kayode Fasua, Information Director of the organisation, described the deceased as a resourceful coordinator who was actively involved in campaigning for Governor Aiyedatiwa until his untimely demise.

He said, “Excel had been a resourceful coordinator for the Aiyedatiwa campaign organisation in Ward 10 of Supare and was never known to be violent and never had any history of a local or domestic dispute.

“We urge the police authorities to step up investigations into his gruesome murder and bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to book.”

Governor Aiyedatiwa was last week, on Monday, declared the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election and the party’s candidate for the upcoming governorship election in Ondo State.

The election, which was held on Saturday, saw Aiyedatiwa amass a total of 48,569 votes, followed by Mayowa Akinfolarin with 15,343 votes and Olusola Oke with 14,865 votes.

Aiyedatiwa lost in Ilaje Local Government Area to third-placed Oke.

However, he coasted to victory in 16 out of 18 local government areas. In the Ifedore local government area, the process was cancelled due to an incident of violence.
